2024 HE Teaching Development Conference

The 2024 HE Teaching Development Conference will be taking place at Royal Holloway, University of London on 4th June. Dedicated to the topic of inclusive education, it will be a day exploring the trends and best practices within this area in higher education.

The conference is being organised by THESIS, an academic group with extensive expertise in HE pedagogy, based in the department of Psychology at RHUL. We are thrilled to bring together educators and other professionals from across the country to share insights, exchange ideas, and collaborate on advancing inclusive teaching and learning practices in higher education in our first national conference. Whether you’re a seasoned educator or just starting your journey in academia, this conference is designed to inspire, empower, and equip you with the tools and strategies needed to create inclusive learning environments for all students.

HE Teaching Development Conference 2024 has two confirmed keynote speakers: Dr Danijela Serbic (Royal Holloway), recipient of British Psychological Society’s prestigious Higher Education Psychology Teacher of the Year 2023, and Dr Jane Sedgwick (King’s College London), who specialises in supporting students with ADHD. They will share their expertise in working with colleagues and students to create HE environments where everyone can better learn and prosper.

The conference is open for submission of abstracts for presentation (deadline 1st May), so if you would like a chance to share your pedagogic work in the field of inclusive education, consider submitting your work using this link. We welcome submissions from all academic areas and related educational fields in higher education.

10/06/2024 10:00 14/06/2024 17:00 Europe/London Festival of Research 2024 Festival of Research 10^th−14^th June PGR Showcase: Understanding How our Work Contributes to Sustainability Tuesday 11^th June, 10:00 to 13:00, EWD Events Space and Atrium This event is designed to promote discussion and enhance the understanding of how the research PGRs are involved in may be able to contribute to the sustainability agenda. With a particular focus on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this event will allow for discussion of the SDGs in the wider context, through showcasing ongoing postgraduate research (your work!) and allowing for discussion of how your research can contribute to and promote sustainability and sustainable practices. We are organising a morning of talks that includes Professor David Simon from the Geography department. A key part of this event is that we would like PGRs to showcase their work in a poster to be displayed in the Atrium and use this as a chance to meet other researchers and discuss how all research can in some way contribute to sustainability in its many creative forms. Printing of the posters will be organised through the Doctoral School, with submission details to follow. This is an invitation to all PGRs to contribute a poster to this event and to showcase your work. We want this to be an inclusive event so even if you cannot think how your research is or can be contributing to sustainability, please do show your work and be part of the discussion! Deadline for the Doctoral School to organise printing for your posters: Tuesday 4^th June 12pm. To submit your expression of interest to showcase a poster or just attend the event please fill in the form. Guidelines for Posters: Size A3 either landscape or portrait. Poster aim: To provide information on the overarching research aim of your work (not the details). A suggested format is as follows: Include the core research questions and/or aims Include the potential findings and conclusions Highlight the main message If you feel comfortable, include how it contributes to an aspect of sustainability (or link to an SDG).
